CEU Course Description

Antimicrobial-resistant infections have been on the rise in the last century. Pathogens utilize various methods to evade the effects of antimicrobial agents. Nurses must increase their knowledge regarding these pathogens, as treatments for many infections change as evidence develops and new resistance is identified. Current information regarding the most common types of antimicrobial infections, mechanisms of resistance, risk factors, signs and symptoms, diagnostic, treatment, and prevention methods is helpful in providing evidence-based care and improved outcomes. Nurses can improve their practice by understanding how the COVID-19 pandemic affected antimicrobial-resistant drugs and reviewing nursing implications related to antimicrobial-resistant infections. 

CEU Course Objectives

1. Define the most common types of antimicrobial infections, as identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 
2. Identify mechanisms of resistance, risk factors, signs and symptoms, and diagnostic, treatment, and prevention methods related to each of these pathogens
3. Understand how the COVID-19 pandemic affected antimicrobial-resistant drugs and clinical practice related to these infections
4. Review nursing implications regarding anti-microbial resistant infections
