CEU Course Description

This continuing education course provides a comprehensive overview of federal regulations in long-term care, translating complex oversight frameworks into practical management strategies for facility leaders. Participants will analyze historical foundations and modern mandates under 42 CFR Part 483, focusing on critical operational and clinical areas such as resident rights, quality of care, pharmacy services, behavioral health, and infection control. The curriculum details the unannounced state survey process, F-tag citations, and enforcement remedies. Ultimately, this course empowers administrators to bridge the gap between regulatory mandates and daily floor execution, utilizing facility assessments to mitigate risk, protect licensure, and improve resident outcomes.

CEU Course Objectives

  1. Evaluate the structure of federal long-term care regulations, compliance requirements, and the legal responsibilities an administrator holds regarding facility operations and oversight.
  2. Establish systemic protocols to uphold resident rights, support activities of daily living (ADLs), manage specialized clinical needs, and ensure high-quality care delivery.
  3. Integrate behavioral health services with medication oversight to monitor psychotropic drug use, manage dose reductions, and eliminate unnecessary medications.
  4. Apply data-driven facility assessments to determine staffing competencies, allocate necessary resources, and meet operational demands.
  5. Develop robust infection prevention programs, maintain ongoing compliance monitoring, and utilize quality improvement frameworks to ensure continuous survey readiness.
