CEU Course Description

Domestic violence is a national public health problem severely affecting physical and psychological health. Nurses are typically the first healthcare providers for victims of domestic violence encounters; therefore, nurses must understand domestic violence's severity, prevalence, and presentation and how to screen, prevent, and care for victims. Recognizing domestic violence can apply to the lifespan through child and elder abuse; this course will focus on intimate partner violence.  Furthermore, this course will define and differentiate domestic violence and intimate partner violence (IPV), address victim and perpetrator profiles, and discuss screening tools and preventative measures to promote optimal patient outcomes.
