CEU Course Description
This CE course describes how to: understand how AD changes a person; learn how to cope with these changes; help family and friends understand AD; plan for the future; make the home safe for the person with AD; manage everyday activities like eating, bathing, dressing, and grooming; find helpful resources; learn about common behavior and medical problems of people with AD and some medicines that may help; and coping with late-stage AD.
Course Objectives
1. Differentiate between the characteristics of mild, moderate, and severe Alzheimer’s disease.
2. Discuss the changes and challenges that AD individuals face, and strategies to cope with these issues.
3. Outline approaches to provide effective everyday care for people with AD, including how to keep them safe.
4. Summarize ways to adapt activities for those with Alzheimer’s disease.
5. Identify medical problems that may accompany AD as well as medications used to treat symptoms and behaviors.
6. Describe various methods to cope with late-stage AD, and ways for caretakers to provide self-care when facing difficult responsibilities and situations.
