CE Course Description

This short course explores the association between pathological gambling and alcohol use disorders (AUDs) - the general name for either alcohol abuse or alcohol dependence.

CE Course Objectives

1.  Describe the incidence and prevalence of pathological gambling (PG), alcohol use disorder (AUD) and co-morbid PG and AUD in the United States and Canada.

2.  Identify common features of AUD and PG including diagnostic criteria, neurobiological processes, genetic and environmental factors, and responsiveness to treatment.

3.  Outline ways in which alcohol use disinhibits gambling behavior and how gambling promotes alcohol use.

4.  Discuss treatment implications pertinent to PG and AUD, as well as key areas for future research.
