CEU Course Description

The prevalence of prescription opioid and heroin use among women is substantial.  In order to examine the prevention, treatment, and recovery issues for women who misuse, have use disorders, and/or overdose on opioids, this CEU course explores what is currently known about the opioid epidemic and describes promising practices for addressing opioid use disorder prevention and treatment for women.

CEU Course Objectives

1.  Explain what services need to do to increase the use of medication-assisted treatment for women.

2.  Investigate the U.S. opioid overdose deaths that involve a prescription opioid.

3.  Scrutinize the amount of time that will often be sufficient when opioids are used for acute pain.

4.  Identify what have been associated with substance use disorders and are typically the most common co-occurring diagnoses for women.

5.  Provide the guidelines for opioid selection, dosage, duration, follow-up, and discontinuation.
