CEU Course Description

Chronic noncancer pain (CNCP) is common in the general population as well as in people who have substance use disorder (SUD). This course is directed at primary care providers who treat or are likely to treat adults patients with or in recovery from SUDs who present with chronic noncancer pain (CNCP).

CEU Course Objectives

1.  Identify practical tools for treating chronic noncancer pain (CNCP) in adults with histories of SUDs.

2.  Discuss various components of chronic pain management including traditional and alternative medications, treating special populations, and psychotherapeutic techniques.

3 Evaluate methods to manage addiction risk in patients treated with opioids. 

4 Summarize the value of patient education for those with CNCP and discuss the use of treatment agreements during the process.

5 Outline strategies to assess patient pain and function, ability to cope with chronic pain, and treatment outcomes.
