This short course is an update by the National Center for PTSD/VA Medical Center on current recommendations regarding benzodiazepine use in PTSD treatment.

1. Outline the historical and current recommendations for using benzodiazepines to treat PTSD.

2. Discuss alternative treatment strategies to manage PTSD symptoms.

3. Summarize research findings examining benzodiazepine efficacy, the use of other medications, and specific ramifications for veterans with PTSD.

4. Identify co-occurring disorders common to individuals with PTSD, and how benzodiazepine and other medication use impacts these conditions.
