CEU Course Objectives

1.  Discuss the cause of schizophrenia and how treatments, especially pharmacological treatments, have had an impact on those living with the disease.

2.  Examine the age that is most common for schizophrenia to present with symptoms and which symptoms are seen most often.

3.  Explain which portion of the brain is affected by schizophrenia and how this introduces the cognitive symptoms of the disorder.

4.  Investigate how those suffering from the disease have a history of delayed maturation and developmental milestones.

5.  Elucidate the events during pregnancy that have been associated with subsequent increased risk for schizophrenia.

6.  Identify the conditions that are epidemic among people with schizophrenia and how this plays into further negative health consequences.
