CEU Course Description

Research in the area of illicit substance use remains preoccupied with describing and analyzing the risks of people who use drugs (PWUD), however, more recently there has been a drive to use a strengths-based or resilience approach as an alternative to investigating drug use.  This CEU course analyzes how the concept of resilience is defined, operationalized, and applied in substance use research.

CEU Course Objectives

1.  Discuss which acts can perpetuate victim-blaming when trying to strengthen resilience.

2.  Investigate the key external factor for resilience, found across all three levels of external protective factors.

3.  Examine which protective factors feature both internal and external domains.

4.  Describe the categories of adversity and identify where drug use falls.
