CEU Course Description

This course addresses the specific challenges of permanency planning with youth and highlights successful models and strategies by examining the: importance of focusing on youth and family connections; federal legislation supporting youth permanency; strategies for permanency planning with youth; and barriers to permanency for youth.

CEU Course Objectives

1.  Discuss the benefits gained by involving youth in their own permanency planning.

2.  Enumerate the long-term physical, mental, and societal outcomes that individuals who transition out of foster care at age 26 experience when compared to youth of the same age in the general population.

3.  Explain ways that the court process may slow or hinder efforts toward permanency and how these may be overcome.

4.  Elucidate the significance that caseworkers play in permanency outcomes as found by Child and Family Services Review.

5.  Describe the aspects that placement services should focus on to be most successful with finding permanent adoptive families for youth.
