CEU Course Description

This course addresses how substance abuse affects the entire family; provides basic information about family therapy for substance abuse treatment professionals and basic information about substance abuse treatment for family therapists; presents the models, techniques, and principles of family therapy; and identifies resources for further information, as well as further directions for both research and clinical practice.

Course Objectives

1. Differentiate between the basic components of family therapy and substance abuse treatments.

2. Identify factors to examine when considering implementing family therapy in substance abuse treatment settings.

3. Summarize the four planning models that provide a framework for administrators and staff to incorporate family therapy into their treatment program.

4. Discuss strategies to coordinate services when multiple agencies are involved in providing services to families.
