CEU Course Description

Pregnant women’s experiences and needs for emotional support, physical well-being, access to healthcare and other community-based services are significantly different from women who are not pregnant.  This CEU course provides information on the impact of trauma in pregnancy and childbirth.

CEU Course Objectives

1.  Discuss the goal of both doulas and advocates for the pregnant woman that comes to be in a domestic violence shelter.

2.  Enumerate warning signs of abuse that a doula may see when visiting with expectant couples in their home.

3.  Investigate the four basic tenets for doulas to consider when attending a birth that may be particularly important for survivors of domestic violence or other forms of abuse.
