CEU Course Description
This course was developed from the National Institute on Drug Abuse publication and has the purpose of providing an overview of heroin use and its consequences as well as treatment options available for those struggling with heroin addition. This course has the aim of informing the reader about the harmful effects of heroin as well as assist in prevention and treatment efforts.
CEU Course Objectives
1. Identify what heroin is and how it is processed and used.
2. Describe the scope of heroin use in the United States, including its linkage to prescription drug use.
3. Evaluate the long and shorts term effects of heroin use, including how use affects pregnant women and increases risk for contracting HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B and C.
4. Summarize medication and behavioral treatments for heroin addiction and discuss the ways they can work to restore a degree of normalcy to brain function and behavior.
