CEU Course Description

This CEU course provides health care workers with information on sufficient sleep, focusing on the following topics: the psychological and physiological aspects of sleep deficits; the different types of sleep disorders; treatment approaches; the relationship between insomnia and mental heath or substance abuse disorders; and recommendations for improving sleep quality at homeless shelters.

CEU Course Objectives

1.  Enumerate the mental health disorders that often cause sleep problems.

2.  Explain the approach to treating sleep difficulties that should only be used when the sleep problems are causing difficulties with the person’s daily activities and after evaluating the cause of insomnia.

3.  Examine the influence of alcohol on sleep.

4.  Describe the age-related ailments that chronic sleep deficits hasten the onset of while also increasing their severity.
