CEU Course Description

Tuberculosis (TB) prevention and control is a high public priority for correctional systems, since TB outbreaks continue to occur in U.S. jails and prisons.  This CEU course provides the Federal Bureau of Prisons clinical practice guidelines for the treatment of federal inmates with tuberculosis infection and disease and for the management of contacts to infectious TB cases.

CEU Course Objectives

1.  Discuss what transmission of M. tuberculosis depends on.

2.  Enumerate the TB cases for which a physician consultant with expertise in TB treatment should be consulted.

3.  Investigate the most significant risk factor for latent TB infection.

4.  Examine what should be done for all inmates with a positive TST or IGRA.

5.  Identify contraindications to tuberculin skin testing.

6.  Describe the circumstances for which treatment for LTBI should ordinarily be discontinued.
