SAMHSA/CSAT assembled expert researchers and service providers from across the United States and Canada to discuss the most commonly used forms of electronically delivered services and their potential efficacy with a variety of substance abuse and mental health issues.
Subsequent meetings of the expert panel resulted in a recommendation for the development of a guidance document to include: purposes of E-therapy, specialty populations, evaluation, appropriate settings for service delivery, licensure, and administrative concerns.
Course Objectives
1. Define the term E-therapy and evaluate the benefits and challenges of using electronic media and information technologies to provide mental health treatment services, particularly in the area of substance abuse treatment.
2. Identify indicators and measures that are used in evaluating the effectiveness of E-therapy, including screening and assessment practices and costs assocociated with its use.
3. Evaluate the impact of technology on culture and race/ethnicity as well as legal, regulatory, and administrative issues related to the use of E-therapy.
