Course Description

This course offers a concise overview of mistake-proofing in the health care profession and identifies the importance of performing tasks accurately in this field. It defines mistake-proofing and discusses approaches to prevent and reduce errors in the work place.

Course Objectives

1. Identify areas of focus for service provider and customer service mistake-proofing.

2. Demonstrate an understanding of “knowledge in the head” versus “knowledge in the world” and how they relate to mistake-proofing.

3. Evaluate the concepts and language of human error including errors of intent and errors in execution.

4. Differentiate between mistake detection and mistake prevention in the work environment
