CE Course Description

Eating disorders are real, treatable medical illnesses.  This CE course provides a brief description of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder; examines the treatment guidelines for these eating disorders, including when to end treatment, what patients with eating disorders are looking for in treatment and in a therapist, and the importance, as well as the timing, of family involvement.  Nutrition related treatment, weight gain guidelines, and pharmacotherapy are also discussed.

CE Course Objectives

1.  Discuss the primary focus of cognitive remediation therapy.

2.  Explain why the threshold for intervention in adolescents should be lower than in adults.

3.  Compare and contrast the role of each eating disorder voice.

4.  Examine the reasons needed for increasing the individual time with transition age youth patients.

5.  Describe the features of alexithymia that patients with eating disorders tend to show.
