CE Course Description

A core group of basic- and extended-care services is essential to the effectiveness of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid addiction.  This CE course describes the phase-treatment approach and duration, approaches to providing comprehensive care and maximizing patient retention, and using drug testing as a tool.

CE Course Objectives

1.  Enumerate the key indicators for transition from the tapering phase to the continuing-care phase.

2.  Explain the criteria that make patients eligible for take-home medication.

3.  Examine at which point of treatment most patients need more intensive treatment services.

4.  Identify the most critical factor influencing treatment outcomes.

5.  Discuss warning signs for possible relapse that counselors and therapists should be mindful of in order to provide intervention.

6.  Describe what counseling in MAT should focus on.
