CEU Course Objectives

1. Examine the reasons that young people become involved in gangs as well as promising strategies that prevent them from doing so.

2. Discuss the magnitude, seriousness, and consequences of gang involvement in the U.S.

3. Explore the pubic health impact of gang membership.

4. Describe how prevention;interventions increase the protective role of families in reducing gang involvement.

5. Determine the role of schools and communities in implementing effective gang prevention strategies.

6. Outline research findings in the areas of juvenile delinquency and youth violence, and how this research can be connected with real world prevention goals.
