CEU Course Description

This CE course describes a comprehensive approach to assessment, developed by the National Council on Crime and Delinquency, that successfully addresses the following objectives of best practices in correctional assessment: resources should target high-risk offenders; programs should address needs related to each offender’s criminal behavior; and case plans should employ strategies that reflect the learning style, motivation, capacities, and circumstances of each offender.  In addition, a comprehensive summary of the history, development, and future of the Correctional Assessment and Intervention System (CAIS) and the Juvenile Assessment and Intervention System (JAIS) are provided.

Knowledge and consent by NCCD should be obtained prior to any assessment tool learned from this course being used.

CEU Course Objectives

1.  Investigate what Client Management Classification evaluation studies have demonstrated regarding the group of offenders that it is used on.

2.  Compare and contrast the four case types of offenders and describe recommended supervision strategies.

3.  Identify the offender settings that the CAIS and JAIS systems can be used for due to the comprehensive recommendations produced.
