CE Course Description
The primary goal of this manual is to enable mental health and crime victim service providers to help victims, survivors, and the community-at-large cope and recover through outreach and support. To further this goal, the manual includes a training course for providing mental health services in the wake of a disaster. Included are field and training resources such as handouts, overheads, and rapid field training Modules—including supplementary training for paraprofessionals.
CE Course Objectives
1. Outline strategies for mental health providers, crime victim assistance professionals, and faith-based counselors that will enable them to provide appropriate mental health support following incidents of criminal mass victimization.
2. Describe characteristics of human-caused and natural disaster events that are likely to result in serious and long-lasting psychological effects.
3. Evaluate the roles, jurisdictions, and responsibilities of key local, state, and federal organizations in responding to disaster and trauma.
4. Discuss training techniques used to assist disaster providers as.they respond to crises or mass victimization and review practical training objectives, materials, and procedures.
5. Identify culturally competent and sensitive interventions that are appropriate for adults, children, and adolescents dealing with loss, trauma, and disaster.
