CEU Course Description

This CEU course provides information for health care professionals relating to the terms used among the LGBTQ community, and the opportunities and risks of coming out, along with the phases of the coming out process.

This material was reprinted, with permission, from the National Sexual Violence Resource Center’s publications entitled “Talking about gender & sexuality: Sexual violence & individuals who identify as LGBTQ” and “The process of coming out: Sexual violence & individuals who identify as LGBTQ.”

CEU Course Objectives

1.  Explain what is typical for a person to feel throughout the coming out process.

2.  Investigate what is helpful for victims in the coming out process to know.

3.  Compare and contrast the stages of the coming out process.

4.  Identify the terms that describe a person’s gender identity.
