CEU Course Description

This course addresses the following concerns with regards to substance abuse treatment: the need for vocational services; vocational programming and resources; clinical issues related to integrating vocational services; integrating onsite vocational services; effective referrals and collaborations; funding and policy issues; and legal issues.

Course Objectives

1. Discuss the need to include vocational counseling and employment services in substance abuse treatment as a way to contribute to positive outcomes.

2. Identify various vocational programming aspects, such as the role of the counselors, vocational screening and assessment, and resources needed to support these services.

3. Summarize clinical issues related to integrating vocational services and how to include such services onsite at substance abuse treatment programs.

4. Describe how collaboration between organizations can enhance vocational programs, and review funding, policy, and legal considerations for such services.
