Course Description:
This is another excellent public domain Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) manual compiled by SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration). It presents information to assist counselors and other treatment providers to work with adults who have histories of childhood abuse or neglect and adults who abuse or who are at risk for abusing their own children.
Course Objectives:
1) Demonstrate knowledge of the implications for treatment of clients with abuse histories and incidence of child abuse and neglect.
2) Recognize challenges and special considerations in accurate screening and assessment for a history of child abuse and neglect.
3) Demonstrate understanding of comprehensive treatments for adult survivors of child abuse and neglect.
4) Identify therapeutic issues for counselors.
5) Enumerate strategies for breaking the cycle of the substance-dependent client parenting and potentially endangering children.
6) Identify legal responsibilities and recourse for treatment professionals.
7) Recognize emerging trends/issues.
