Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

$21.00 | CEU Hours:7

CE Course Description

This Evidence Based Guideline applies to:

• Adult patients (18 years or older) who are diagnosed with concussion/mTBI and complain of symptoms related to the injury and who are treated in VA/DoD clinical settings for these symptoms at least 7 days after the initial head injury.

• The guideline is relevant to all healthcare professionals providing or directing treatment services to patients with concussion/mTBI in any VA/DoD healthcare setting, including both primary and specialty care.

• This guideline does not address: management of concussion/mTBI in the acute phase (< 7 days post injury), management of moderate or severe TBI, mTBI presented as polytrauma and managed in an inpatient setting, or mTBI in children.

CE Course Objectives

1. Recognize evidence-based and efficient strategies to manage patients with concussion and/or mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), while differentiating between those who may benefit from further assessment, brief intervention, and/or ongoing treatment.

2. Define traumatic brain injury and identify diagnostic criteria and symptoms for m/TBI and concussion.

3. Determine which symptom management techniques are best suited for physical, cognitive, and behavioral symptoms of mTBI/concussion while identifying pharmacotherapy and physical rehabilitation options.

4. Evaluate interventions to improve health related outcomes for patients with concussion/mTBI and to reduce morbidity and morality for these injuries.
